Experience
QinetiQ is an international organisation that provides technology-based services and solutions to the defence, security and related markets. QinetiQs primary clients are government organisations including defence departments, intelligence services and security agencies.
In this role I provided Internet consultancy and bespoke solutions to clients and business units within QinetiQ. My preferred methods for website implementation were XHTML, JavaScript, Classic ASP, ASP.NET, MS IIS, and MySQL databases. However, I was always keen to learn new skills and technologies in order to provide solutions that suited existing client infrastructures. Researching and experimenting with emerging Internet technologies, with a view to incorporating them into future offerings, was also an important aspect of my role.

- Analytical research - co-authored a research paper that looked at how web analytics, website aggregators, and mash-ups could be exploited for use in online sentiment and target audience analysis;
- Digital forensics - analysed web server log files to understand and report on hacking attempt methods such as SQL injection and cross-site scripting (XSS) to improve system resilience;
- Requirements engineering - used UML v2.0 to assist with requirements analysis and software design of an intranet based systems analysis tool;
- Project management support - developed risk registers, and provided staff and material costing estimates for a MOSS based project;
- Report writing - authored and delivered a white paper at a trade conference that discussed the use of emerging games and Internet technologies to assist with rapid data generation for military training systems; and,
- Trials and experimentation - travelled to Belize on a military exercise to trial a capability demonstrator to help gather requirements for an Intranet-based collaborative working tool and e-Learning system.
